About Peace River
Our Philosophy
We begin with the understanding that young children learn best through imitation, movement, and sensory experience—not through academic instruction or screen-based stimulation.
Our days are shaped by rhythm, meaningful work, artistic activity, and connection to the natural world.
Rather than rushing children into reading and writing, we focus on developing the foundations that support future learning: imagination, social awareness, curiosity, resilience, and a strong sense of self.
A Waldorf Approach
Our curriculum is inspired by Waldorf education and designed to honor the natural stages of childhood development.
We believe children thrive when given time to play, create, explore, and engage with the world through their senses. Through stories, art, music, movement, practical activities, and outdoor experiences, children develop the confidence and capabilities needed for future academic success.
What Makes Our Program Different?
Rhythm and Predictability
Daily and weekly rhythms give children a felt sense of security, allowing them to explore freely within a trusted structure.
Nature and Seasonal Awareness
Time outdoors, seasonal crafts, gardening, and connection to the natural world are woven throughout each week—not reserved for special occasions.
Arts as the Curriculum
Beeswax modeling, watercolor painting, singing, storytelling, and creative play develop fine motor skills, focus, imagination, and emotional understanding in ways worksheets cannot.
Why Ratio Matters
Early childhood is when children form their relationship to school, to peers, and to their own capabilities. This stage of development requires attentive, responsive adults who have the time and presence to truly know each child.
That is why we work to maintain a 1:6 teacher-to-child ratio.
Every Waldorf principle we hold depends on teachers being able to observe children closely, respond thoughtfully to their needs, and cultivate a classroom community where every child is seen and valued.
While state licensing standards allow a 1:12 ratio, we intentionally staff well below those limits. We believe smaller groups create calmer classrooms, stronger relationships, more confident children, and teachers who can bring their best selves to the work each day.
